Day 5

CUSCO TO MACHU PICCHU // CHOICE OF LUXURY TRAIN
Breakfast is included this morning at the hotel. The next three days will be among the most important days of your world travels. There is an old saying in travel “getting there is half the journey”. You will enjoy a 5 hour journey to Machu Picchu, the hidden city of the Sacred Valley. You will travel by bus with your guide or have a choice of four amazing train experiences to the sacred city. Machu Picchu is a 15th century Inca citadel located at a 8000 foot mountain ridge. Often referred to as the “Lost City of the Incas”, it is the most famous icon of the Inca Empire.

The Inca civilization had no written language and following the first encounter by the Spanish soldier Baltasar Ocampo, no Europeans are recorded to have visited the site from the late 16th century until the 19th century. As far as historical knowledge extends, there are no existing written records detailing the site during its period of active use. The names of the buildings, their supposed uses, and their inhabitants, are the product of modern archaeologists based on physical evidence, including tombs at the site. This is was saved Machu Picchu from Spanish Conquest. Spain searched for more than 200 years believing it was ‘the lost city of gold.” Because it was never found, the city survived. There is no road to Machu Picchu. You will travel by coach to Ollantaytambo and then board a transfer commuter train to Aguas Caliente Machu Picchu Pueblo as you check into your first class (3 star) Hotel Petamam Machu Picchu (or similar) or you can upgrade to the deluxe (4 star) Hotel Taypikala Machu Picchu (or similar).

Day 6

MACHU PICCHU SIGHTSEEING
Breakfast is included at the hotel this morning. Today you will travel on a special mountain bus to Machu Picchu. Your guide will tour the incredible ruins and city of the lost. Machu Picchu was built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls. Its three primary structures are the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the Intihuatana. Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed in order to give visitors a better idea of how they originally appeared.

Your tour will help you understand the importance of Machu Picchu. It is simply spectacular to look at as it is perched at a mountain top with three 3000 ft peaks towering over the high mountain city. Machu Picchu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was selected a one of the ‘New Seven Wonders Of The World.” In your great travels of the world, today will be one of them. Return to the hotel to ensure a leisurely pace for this experience.

Day 7

MACHU PICCHU, SACRED VALLEY SIGHTSEEING TO CUSCO
Breakfast is included this morning at the hotel. Today is dedicated to the Andes high mountain sightseeing of the Sacred Valley. Today you will see many mountains more than 5000 feet higher than in mountain in the continental US. The Sacred Valley of the Incas is called this because it was a holy valley of the kings of the Inca empire. The Sacred Valley was incorporated slowly into the Inca Empire from 1000 AD.

The famous drink “Pisco Sour” was created here. The Sacred Valley has archeological remains as old as 800 BC making it the oldest civilization in the Western Hemisphere. The Sacred Valley and Inca Empire collapsed with the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors. The Spanish executed the Inca royal families. Much of the 70 mile valley is more than 10,000 ft high. During your tour you will see many mountains like Sahuasiray and Veronica that are more than 19,000 feet high. Here you will about the incredible farming cultivation of the valley floor that made the Inca empire one of the most successful in the world. Later you arrive back into Cusco and check into the first class (3 star) Wayne Inka Classic Hotel (or similar). You can upgrade to the deluxe (4 star) San Agustin Plaza Hotel (or similar)
